Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What is a panoramic photo?

Answer: A panoramic photo is a number of photos "stitched" together to create a very wide or tall photo (much larger than 1 single photo from a camera).

Question: What is an interactive photo?

Answer: An interactive photo is actually a panoramic photo converted into a QTVR (Quicktime Virtual Reality) file. It allows a viewer to look at a 360 degree photo as if they were at the location of the photo themselves, spinning around to look at their surroundings.

Question: What are the requirements to view a panoramic photo?

Answer: As long as your PC can view .jpg files on their PC, an Internet connection and an Internet browser, you will be able to view or save the sample panoramic photos.

Question: What are the requirements to view a QTVR/interactive photo?

Answer: You must have Quicktime installed on their PC to view our sample QTVR file. This is available to download for free from www.apple.com. If you do not have Quicktime installed, your web browser will automatically notify you if you are using a newer version of your favourite web browser.

Question: I want to have a panoramic photo or interactive photo of an area but want to take the pictures myself. Can this be done?

Answer: Of course! 3dpans.com will take a batch of photos you have taken and stitch them together to create a panoramic or interactive (QTVR) photo. You can upload them to our servers easily by pressing the 'Submit An Order' link on the left side of your screen.

Question: Ok, it sounds simple enough to upload files for you to create me what I want. Is there a trick to taking the pictures?

Answer: Yes there is! The easiest way is to purchase a tripod which has degree markings and a level on it. Set up your camera on the tripod and ensure it is level. Use the degree markings on your tripod to take a picture every 5-10 degrees of the area you wish to have combined into a panoramic or interactive photo. Submit these pictures to 3dpans.com to have your final images created.

Question: In one of my panoramic photos I noticed that some parts of the photo do not line up 100% or there is a very small slightly blurry spot in the photo. Why is this?

Answer: Sometimes an object in a photo will not look "quite right" - this is normally due to the tripod having been moved slightly while the photographer rotates the camera around the tripod. If a 3dpans.com photographer believes the tripod has moved while pictures are being taken, they will re-shoot the scene. If a client has uploaded images where the tripod has moved, they will still be held responsible for all charges related to creating the image.

Question: This all sounds great - how much does it cost?

Answer: It's very inexpensive! Please click here to view our pricing page.

Question: I need a number of panoramic or interactive photos created for me, can I get a discount?

Answer: Yes! See our pricing page for details.

Question: What payment methods do you accept?

Answer: We currently accept cash, cheques, money orders, International money orders in Canadian dollars and email money transfers within Canada.
